Discovery Home Care serves youth who have been victims of sexual or physical abuse, physical or emotional neglect, abandonment, homeless and runaways. These kids may be referred to Discovery Home Care by Social Services, Parents, Schools, Community Organizations or by a law enforcement agency to provide an immediate safe and stable living situation for youth until a more permanent placement can be developed or to allow for a cooling-off period between parent and child.
While living with Discovery Home Care Inc., in addition to a comfortable bed and home style nutritious meals youth receive counseling, life skills development and healthy recreation as well as placement and program referral services. The Shelter is a special place where kids can escape the trauma of the streets and their family crisis.
Discovery Home Care Inc., originated in the heart of Managing Director, Sandra Abraham Williams, many years before the actual Corporation start date of January 2006. As the mother of 4 children, 13 grandchildren and 4 foster children 2 of whom she has legal guardianship, Ms. Williams has been in the business of loving and caring for children most of her life.
Mrs. Williams first opened her home to children as a Foster Parent in 1988. Over the years, multitudes of youth have had the pleasure and joy of calling her “Mom”. With Mrs. Williams’ love for children she envisioned providing a place for children who needed a safe place to call “HOME”.
In 2006, Mr. & Mrs. Williams along with their children formed Discovery Home Care Inc., Youth Emergency Shelter. Since the first day of operation Mr. Early and Sandra Williams have not only personally funded every aspect of the Shelter, but also provided funds for 82 outside activities for the youth in the shelter in 2007.
